Melasma is an acquired, chronic, recurrent and symmetrical hypermelanosis characterised by circumscribed, light to dark brown and occasionally greyish patches in sun-exposed areas. Triggers may include genetic and hormonal influences and exposure to ultraviolet radiation. Microneedling in combination with both topical tranexamic acid and conventional topical drug therapy significantly improves the appearance of melasma.<\/span><\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n<\/div>

Microneedling is an outpatient, minimally invasive, quick, and safe<\/strong> treatment. A topical anesthetic cream can be applied prior to the procedure based on the patient’s preferences. Sessions usually last between 15 and 20 minutes<\/strong>. After the procedure, a soothing mask, which often contains vitamins, zinc, hyaluronic acid, or peptides, will be applied to help calm the skin and promote immediate healing.<\/span><\/p>\n\t\n<\/div>[\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″]

At the end of the session, it is normal for the treated area to be red, a reaction that usually lasts between 2 and 6 hours<\/strong>. Occasionally, small bruises may appear, which are not of major concern.
